Businesses close shop, employees call in sick to bosses that “have meetings out of the office” all afternoon. There are two extra reasons to celebrate Opening Day this year. The defending National League Champions are back at Busch since their World Series loss (though you couldn’t tell they lost from the fans greetings today!) and this is the last Opening Day at the soon-to-be Old Busch Stadium. At the end of this season, Busch will be demolished and the future Busch Stadium will stand in its stead. This is the last Opening Day that you can “meet me at Musial” yet never be found (because everyone else is meeting there too!).

I am sitting in my cube here in Tulsa, OK, 400 miles away, wearing my Cardinals hat and shirt. Less than an hour to go before the first pitch is thrown, the Cardinals have probably already arrived in the stadium each riding in or on a Cardinal Red 2005 Ford Mustang (not sure, but I would bet that’s the car they use this year) driving around the edge of the stadium’s warning track. The first pitch will be thrown soon. I wish I was there today. There is no experience like it.

At least I have a ticket for the last regular season game at Old Busch.
